PE class and health education combined?
After experiencing many PE classes in my past and thinking about how these classes and experiences could have been more beneficial, I was curious about something. It is know that many Physical Education classes do not educate, advise or instruct kids about healthy behaviors that incorporate health, nutrition and wellness principles. I am not saying every PE class is like this, but a majority of PE classes touch briefly on the topics listed about and really revolve around activity (which is great and essential). These activities involve stretching, fundamental games, sport education and fitness tests. These are all great for our youth of today. Read more »
Legendary Sports Managers - Nominate Your Favorite!
With the passing of George Steinbrenner, I decided to start a collaborative project that compiled some of the greatest team owners/managers in sports. Nominate the person who you believe had an influential effect on a team or sport and explain their major contribution to sports management. It can be any manager/owner in any sport.
1) Owner/manager: George Steinbrenner (July 4, 1930 – July 13, 2010)
Sport Psychology Movies List Group Project
I’m sure you’ve all noticed that the link to the sport psychology movies in the “Watching a Sport Psychology Movie” assignment in the Apply section for this class doesn’t work. Prof. Sather says he is aware of it and has yet to find a useful list elsewhere on the web. I thought it’d be a worthwhile activity for us to work on a group project creating a sport psychology movie list. If we all contribute a couple of movies then we should have something useful for our class to use for the “Watching a Sport Psychology Movie” assignment and for future classes if Prof. Sather decides to use it. Aggression in sports
Aggression in sports
Sports aren’t necessarily there to punish your opponent physically because if that were the case everybody would just become super buffed and take on anybody. Sports are combative to an extent but it is based on skills more then physical prowess. However when sports take that violent turn it is known as Psychological Aggression in sports psychology terms. Creatine Position Statements
I have initiated this project in an effort to develop a consice list of current beliefs adn positions regarding the use of creatine, specifically by high school students. I did some research looking for studies on the effects of creatine supplementation. Very little good work is available. I did find this 2001 Study that did a fairly good job. I realize its a little old, but the information is good. Here is another research article (slightly newer) courtesy of the Gatorade Sports Science Institute. Read more »

Rejuvenating Your Majors' Club
Project Purpose: Re-form the physical activity and health majors' club at Eastern Oregon University. The club should include both on-campus and online students, since there are a substantial number of majors in both venues.
Background: The physical education majors club existed in the past, and still exists on paper today. In the 1990s, the club was active at sporting events to raise money for their functions. They served a major role as the "Quinn Crazies" and collected money in fundraising efforts at the games. The club eventually diminished and is currently inactive. Read more »

Lesson 1
This week and next week we will be doing activities that teach and reinforce procedures and protocols for the class. This is always important because you can't teach anything if you don't have classroom control. Classroom management techniques will be especially important since the assisstants are not trained teachers. Doing essentially whole group lessons for the first two weeks will allow the assistants to learn the expectations, the management techniques while helping to monitor this large group of students.
