Interview with Coach Ellis of Mount Baker High School
For this assignment I interviewed my old basketball coach at Mount Baker HS. She is still the varsity girls coach there, and is doing a wonderful job. I asked her a series of questions and she answered them wondergfully.
Q 1: What made you want to be a basketball coach, let alone a coach? Did you have anyone who inspired you, or someone who guided you?
A 1: I wanted to be a basketball coach because I LOVE the sport. I have played since I can remember and I enjoy being around others with the same passion I have for the sport. I started coaching because an AAU program was getting started in Ferndale and I volunteered to help get it started. Read more »

Website for Eastern Oregon Volleyball Club~ Noelle Carstens & Melinda Becker
Noelle and I wanted to shared with you a webiste which was created this year for the Eastern Oregon Volleyball Club. Noelle and I are both coaching for the club teams. The club director, Emily, Noelle and I decided it would be much easier to communicate with players and parents through a website and our own email. To create the website, the club director , Emily, worked with a local FBLA chapter at the school she teaches at to help us desigin the site. The FBLA chapter has created several websites so they were a very valuable resource. All three of us gave input and the FBLA chapter helped us generate the website. Of course, Noelle and I are not taking full credit for the site simply because it was a group effort. It is also still a work i Read more »

Trying to make a workout out of farm chores. Any suggestions???
Farm Chore Workout
This week I spoke with a friend who had a great idea for a combined cardiovascular and muscular workout using simple materials found on a farm. My friend is a wrestler at a community college, but he also works on a relative’s farm part time during the week. He asked his coach if he could use parts of his work for his weekly workout if he developed a plan and stuck to it. The trick to this kind of workout is coming up with a number of repeatable exercises that could be accomplished during the course of a day’s work without actually changing the work itself. Interview with KARLTON MIMS - Professional Basketball player in the Portuguese League
I had the chance to interview a friend of mine from Chicago, that is a professional basketball athlete here in Portugal. I decided to interview Karlton because mostly of my past coaches i lost contact with, and thought to create a different interview. Most of my classmates interviewed coaches, but i thought it would be interesting to get the perspective from an athlete stand point, and how important were his different coaches through his career. Here is the interview with Karlton Mims. If you have any questions, or would like to know a little more about him let me know and i will get in touch with him.
When did you first know what you wanted to do for a career? Read more »
Coach search
Thought I would share with everyone the process of finding a new coach. Recently the EOU soccer team has been in search of a new head coach, this process has taken over four months and has not been easy. As a senior I was not involved as much as the returners but I did get the opportunity to sit in and listen to interviews for potential coaches. This was a very good way for me to watch and learn how coach interviews typically go, to prepare myself for up coming job interviews. Read more »

Evaluation of an Interview Tool
Evaluation of the City of Bozeman’s Lifeguard I Interview Tool:
Currently the City of Bozeman has a different evaluation tool for each position. At the Swim Center we have three different tools for my position, which is the Lifeguard III, down to the Lifeguard I position. For this assignment I am going to review and edit the current Lifeguard I Interview Tool used during the hiring process. It has been over ten years since I went through the Lifeguard I hiring process. After looking at this I can tell that it has definitely been improved since I was hired. Some of the questions are the same, but some have been changed to reflect the change in the social environment and position.
Recent Experience in Conflict Resolution
I currently hold the low level management position of Lifeguard III in our facility. In reality I was becoming increasingly frustrated with the individuals in-which I am supposed to be supervising, due to the fact they were bypassing me with their problems and going directly to my supervisors. The tension in the air was becoming thicker by the day. It was becoming more difficult to even say, “how was your week-end?” I finally, during my break, went to my supervisor and asked what I needed to do to resolve the situation. We discussed things that were going on, and found out that part of the problem was that my superiors were not helping the situation for a couple of reasons. First, they were letting them come to them with their issues and not giving me Read more »

First Level Tumbling Stunt Descriptions
Below are some decscriptions of beginning tumbling stunts which progress in difficulty. Some of them may be usuable in a classroom, while some of them may not be such a good idea, but here is a resource. Pictures of these stunts can be found on pp. 228-230 in Sports and Recreational Activities. Has anyone taught these in a PE class?
Tumbling
“Tumbling provides an excellent means for develop agility, poise, balance, and coordination as well as being helpful in developing individual fitness. Success in learning new skills gives the individual self-confidence, courage, and determination.” (Mood, Musker & Rink, 2007, p 226)

Brady Hazen's Practice Plan
Using suggestions from the NFHS Fundamentals of Coaching (2009) class and various websites (which are linked in my practice plan), I have made a jr. high basketball practice plan. I designed this with the thought of developing a template that I could use for future coaching and easily adjust based on the needs of the team. One area I found difficult was giving proper time to each section (which can change anyhow depending on what the team needs), even with the NFHS time suggestions. Let me know what you think!
