Wii Fitness

This is a good way to working out if you are not completely ready for a hard core workout!!  The Wii is an expensive way to start out if you are a student, the Wii start at 199.99, and Wii Fitness pad starts at 99.99.  Then you have to buy the game for the Wii.  The Wii it's self comes with Wii sports, which is a fun game to play and it get you active.  The Wii is another way to workout inside during the winter months. 

You can do several things with Wii fit.  You can customize your workouts, and you get trophies for making several advancement, for example working out for so many days in a row.  It's a fun way to work out.

Core Muscles

Through this term I've been having hip and quad problems. They've been very sore and made running and working out difficult. I can't pinpoint that exact reason for why they hurt, for it could be a number of reasons. I could of pulled a muscle or it could of been because I overpronate (when feet roll inward too much and the heel and arch absorb the impact) when I run which can cause shin splints and soreness because it's pulling the muscles down. Also it could be because of underdeveloped core muscles. There's not much I can do for a pulled muscle besides iceing and strengthing it, or for my feet (I have orthodics but they don't fit into my racing shoes), but as for underdevolped core muscles I can strengthen. Snowboarding

Most of the time you wouldnt think of snowboarding as a workout. However it is an excellent way to get out in cold snowy weather and get a workout. The combination of up and down from your butt to your feet is a workout in its self. Then you add balance, long runs, and the heavy equipment and you have yourself a great workout for cold snowy days.

I always work on my legs and I feel it takes forever to get results so I looked up what workouts really work and here are my results.

Working on your legs can improve your stamina, shape and overall fitness. Everyone's results

Hello everyone, i went out to the track yesterday to run 1.5 miles again, and i ran it faster then i did in the begining of the term.  In fact i improved in everything that i tested for.  I hope everyone was happy with their results too.  If someone was really happy with their results and would like to share their diet and work-out schedule i would like to know. Personal Fitness Journal-Final Entry

Hi!  I am happy to report that I improved an average of at least 10% in every area with the exception of my BF and flexibility.  However, I am overall happy with my results.  I did lose a little over one percent body fat and for a time likely lost more and have gained it back due to lack of exercise and excessive eating!  My faith is restored and I see the importance of fitness tests not only to know where you currently are  but to better assess what you have accomplished and/or lost! what does everyone think? is indoor track better then outdoors? I personally like them both. The advantage to indoor is that the weather is not a factor. but the distance is different due to the size of the building. The down sides are that you get a real nasty cough after you race and the corners on some tracks can be elevated. on the other hand on an outside track your breathing is controlled better and you have a track that you know how long it is no matter what. I would love to have an indoor track here at la grand. but they are expensive to build and take time. I would like to know how many people would also like to have an indoor track in la grand?

There has been much controversy over vegetarian diets since they became popular. People start thinking one thing about the diet and soon the belief spreads like the flu. There are many truths and myths out there about vegetarian diets. This is due to people not being properly informed on vegetarian diets. They just believe whatever they hear about the diet and form their opinion based solely on that, regardless of facts. Yoga

Hey everyone,

I was wondering if anyone knew of any yoga studio's here in La Grande? I have heard about Yoga City, does anyone know about it? Also are there any classes offered through the University? I have been doing hatha yoga for 8 years now, but havent been to an actually class up here. I have just been waiting tell I am home on breaks and then going to my typical studio. However this has created some bad habits and I have gotten a little sloppy without the periodic instruction. I really enjoy my studio in norther California, but I think it would be great to experience someone else's point of view!

End of Term

As the end of this term is nearing I would just like to say that I feel that I learned alot from this class, And have got myself on a pretty regular work out schedule. I can honestly say that I have worked out more this term than I ever have befor on my own, and working out is something I want to continue to do even after this class. I have scheduled in my planner time out of my day just for working out. I would just like to say thank you to everyone that has commented on my work this term and wish every one luck as this class ends I hope everyone continues to apply what they have learned in this class to every day routines. I know I feel alot healthier with the changes I have made.

EOU Swimming Pool

Earlier in the term there were posts about the local public pool being available for EOU students. This got me think about the EOU swimming pool. It is my understanding that it had been closed down due to staph bacteria.  I found a lot of great information about staph infection, along with its causes, sympotoms, and cures using http://www.webmd.com/skin-problems-and-treatments/staph-infection-cellulitis.  I was wondering if anything is being done to restore the pool, or if there were plans to do anything.

Reebok easytone

I’m sure we have all seen the adds for the Reebok easytone shoes. They tone your legs and gluts while walking.  It works the same way an exercise ball does.  When you sit on an exercise ball, which many people do instead of an office chair, one must balance and this tones and strengthens the core muscles as well as creates better posture.  This is at least what some studies have shown.  Apparently this is what Reebok easytone shoes do to your legs by making you balance on the balls of your feet.   Read more »
