Teaching ~ Peer Double
Here are the notes and summaries from my peer double teaching experience. I had a great time and took home some great skills and advice.
Student: Becky Wilkinson Cooperating Teacher: Becky Heinrick
Class: Elementary PE
Subject: Kickball
Description:
Becky started the class by having all the students engage in a warm up activity by having them jog a quick lap around the grass. This also helped the students get to know each other better as they really had not met before. It was a nice icebreaker. Read more »

PE Night
My principal recently asked me to host PE night since I am new to the school. The attached video shows the program. The group of boys and girls are second graders demonstrating three different activites that they learned over the last nine weeks. The first activity was juggling scarves, followed by overhand throwing at targets, and closing with a Russian Folk Dance called the Trioka.
Field Day Plans
This is just a little something that I thought some teachers would like to see. The sheet below is what I gave to teachers for our Field Day last week. It details the events, where each teacher starts, and what to do. I also had a copy of this list at each event. We had some high school kids come over and help run each event. Please post any questions if you don't understand.
Thanks,
Ike
FIELD DAY 2009
The name of each teacher is beside the event where they are to start. Rotate in a numbered order clockwise fashion as the whistle blows approximately every 4 to 5 minutes. Teachers, please split your class into two even teams (same boys and girls on each team) as many events are team relays.

Re-emphasis on collaborative projects
I recommend that everyone make some significant contributions to collaboration projects in the next few weeks. The ability to work together on a common online project is an important professional skill. The result can be much better than presenting individual projects. A good common project will be ready to use by anyone for their teaching. Right now we have some good projects available to work on. I created a new tab under the "My Unread" link that shows available collaborations. With collaborations, you just edit the document directly and make your contributes. Each time it is saved a new revision is made.
Circuit Training Unit Plan Collaboration
Here is what I have started for a unit plan collaboration of 12 lesson plans for circuit training.
I would appreciate anyone to add on lesson plans, comments or suggestions.
* The beautiful calendar I made is not posting as I would like, so please bear with it.

Physical Education Cues
As a teacher of Physical Education, you will use a variety of cues during any given class period, and it is important to be able to clearly know and identify these different types of cues. The cues are separated into five categories:
1. Instructional Cue (Teaching Cue)
2. Class Management Cue
3. Prompting Cue
4. Attentional Cue
5. Behavioral Cue
It is equally important to note that since a cue is a form of communication, any of these cues can be verbal, non-verbal, or a combination of both (Sather).
Instructional Cue
A teaching cue is a word or a phrase that calls attention to the key points of skill technique (Pangrazi, 2007). Read more »

Work and tests for mid-term
Within a few weeks I'll be using the Application Rubric to assess your effective in the class for the first half of the term. The "Apply" section of your learning guide has the information about presenting work and the "Check" section talks about feedback. A personal success plan that includes a schedule of projects you will present is a really good idea. Also, I suggest that everyone contribute to at least one of the collaborations we have going right now.
Exam 1 is currently available. Please note that the original closing date was wrong. It is now set-up to be open until May 4 but I recommend taking it as soon as possible.
