Peer Evaluation of Scatter Square Dance lesson
My lesson, Scatter Square Dance, was observed by the Adapted PE Specialist, Vicki Landon. I copied the rubric published in the Learning Guide and Vicki used that to criteria to evaluate me. Instead of scanning her copy, I retyped it and included it as a link to googledocs. The followup discussion that Vicki and I had is summarized below.
To view the rubric used to evaluate my lesson, please click the link below. That should ( I hope) take you to google docs where the rubric was formatted. Thank you

Exam 2 Scores
Nice scores by everyone on the final exam. Today is the final day to turn in work. Sometime this week I'll be getting the final grading done. Thanks for all your work in the class.
Variety within P.E.
In our local newspaper this week, an article was written about one of our local junior high schools - Sierra Vista Junior High. For those of us living in the Santa Clarita Valley, we have heard rumors of their phenominal P.E. program. From reading the article it's hard not to see why... Read more »

Potential Technical Issue with Text Editor
This will only apply to you if you if you will be editing previously created content. Hopefully this issue doesn't create a major problem. If it does, please contact me. Here is a description of the issue:
Potential Text Editor Problem With Previously Created Content
Recently, the text editor was enabled by default for all text entry
on the site. This was done to provide consistency in content where
editing is shared among users. This creates a potential problem for
anyone who wants to edit content that was previously created with plain
text (without the editor enabled). The result is some formatting loss,
mainly with line breaks and paragraphs. There are a few different
solutions for this issue. Read more »
P.E. Assistants Packet
I just posted my newly revised orientation/training packet that I utilize when I'm meeting with my P.E. assistants for the first time. I don't read off the sheet, as I assume that they are adults and are literate. But I do focus on certain areas with regards to discipline and instruction. This year, I am toying with the idea of having each one of the assistants sign the packet so that should anything happen...What do you think?
P.E. Assistants Packet
Welcome to the Oak Hills P.E. Team!
First, I want to thank you for joining our team. This has been my third year using the P.E. Release model. The program is constantly evolving and developing into a program that incorporates all the physical fitness and skills components that is critical to the developing child. Therefore, each year will look similar but with some modifications as the students skill base becomes more proficient.
I am excited to get to know each and everyone of you and encourage your input whenever possible. I hope that you will have a positive experience and learn a lot about what goes into teaching a high-quality Physical Education program.
Martial Arts Class Lesson Plan
Hello Class. I had some trouble and I tried to re arrange the format of he lesson plan but when I just switched the class a bit to fit the lesson plan everything worked out for the better. I got Kids who were so interested in what was coming next that they forgot we were learning and they were having fun. By the end of the class period I had two students one male 7 and one female 6 who remembered the names of every stance that were learned that night and could say the names without being prompted. It usually takes about three classes for them to remember. I also applied the pre-Mack principal to the class and it made them work even harder. Read more »

Parents letter
I just posted a parents letter that I'm thinking of using. I'm normally much more personable in my letters of introduction, but given the climate of having to defend spending money on Physical Education I thought it was appropriate. I'm just wondering if its too STRONG...Your thoughts?
P.E. Introductory Letter to Parents
Dear Oak Hills Parents:
As this new school year begins, I would like to remind you about the importance of your child’s physical activity education. The percentage of overweight youth has more than tripled in the past 25 years partially due to increased interest in sedentary activities such as television, computers, and video games. A reduction in physical activity as well as an increase in caloric intake has contributed to an obesity epidemic. Read more »

Discussion Tab on Collaborations
Please note that I moved the comment displays into a tab called "Discussion" viewable under the title of the collaboration. I did this to create an area for a discussion of the paper that is separate from the display of the actual work.
Benefits of Trunk Twisting?
While I was working on our collaborative project I noticed that Pangrazi has "trunk twisting and bending exercises" as one of the fitness activities for developmental II and III (page 278). I was a little puzzled at what the benefits of these types of activities provided for the students. I'm wondering if balance/stability activities shouldn't be substituted instead. Your thoughts?
Collaboration Options
One thing that all of you in this class have in common is that you are practicing professionals. This is great, because you can apply your knowledge based on experience. Also, the work you do here becomes more meaningful because you can use it directly. For these reasons, I recommend working on collaborations in the next few weeks. Unit plans will probably be the best option for these. Collaborations allow anyone in our group to edit them directly. You can leave a comment in the revisions box to let everyone know what changes you made. To see available collaborations, go to the "My Unread" link and you'll see a tab there for collaborations you can work on in this class. With a collective effort, I'm sure we can come up with something good that everyone can use. Read more »
Questions on Lesson plans
In the text the lesson plans follows a sequence of Introductory activity, fitness development activity, Lesson focus, and the closing activity. is this format written in stone or could we rearrange the the order as to coincide with the way i teach the martial arts classes? If so would be appropriate for me to just make one up for an imaginary class of youths?
