Risk Management Project
The fitness facility that I observed for the Risk Management Project is a great facility however there were many things that could be possible hazards. The fitness facility was very large containing many machines, additional rooms for classes, and a swimming pool.
The following issues could become hazards at this local facility.
- Steps leading up to additional floor had snags in the carpet.
- One of the running machines had a loose handle bar.
- The swimming pool deck did not absorb water causing it to be slippery.
- The swimming pool chlorine levels were either too high or not high enough.
- The ball in one of the exercise rooms was not inflated all the way.
- There were loose weights not put in the proper place.

Using Facebook for promotions/My community service tie-in
http://www.facebook.com/home.php?#/pages/State-Games-of-Oregon/108640933617?ref=ts
I am still working with the person who replaced me as their volunteer coordinator, but due to the economoy State Games has really gotten hit for the budget for marketing, they have no budget.
So we have been working on putting this together.
Fitnessgram/Activitygram
In my motor development class we have a discussion about the fitnessgram and activitygram program that has been developed for younger students by the Cooper Institue. When I was reading on the website for it I found it very interesting and thought that people in this class could benefit from it. If you plan to be an athletic director or teach PE or Health in schools then this program might be something you should consider implementing into the curriculum. The cooper institute has a great site for PE major's and I would suggest looking at that as well. It's cooperinstitute.org and the fitnessgram/activity gram is a great program that I wish would have be implemented in my schools growing up. Read more »

Interesting tie-in sports and the Solar Schools Program
Being a huge hockey fan, I follow most of the NHL teams on Twitter. Something came accrosed Twitter that caught my attention from the Carolina Hurricanes.
Caniac teachers - Thanks to Canes and Progress you can apply by Aug. 31st at http://carhur.com/141 to win free solar panels for your school
The Hurricanes are working with the Solar Schools program in Carolina to support schools installing solar panels.
This is a unique sports tie-in, I never expected to see a hockey team partnering with something like this.
I feel its a great chance for more tie ins.
Update on creating my blog
Belive it or not, the fan I refered to in my earlier post about my blog project actually made some intersting feedback on my goals, so I am going to go ahead and keep the blog running for the time being

Fitness Center Shooting

Are there any preventative measures that could have been in place to limit the risk of this happening at an athletic club? How should a club react to a disaster like this? We had some violence at our local fitness club a few years ago, although it was property damage.
My Proposal
My Proposal
I play a lot of Frisbee Golf and at EOU we only have a 9 holes course. My proposal is to add onto the EOU Frisbee golf course in La Grande, OR. With an additional 9 holes it would make it into a traditional 18 hole course attracting more players as some of the bigger 18 hole courses do. Read more »
