UO fans

My wife and I are big duck fans and since this is a sport class I thought it would be neat to pass along this video that features a music video for "I love my ducks". Since they are for sure going to the National Championship game it is even more appropriate! Go Oregon!!!!

Controversial Football Call

I thought this story was pretty interesting and in our neck of the woods, Washington state.

foam roller exercises

I took a class for personal training and the book I read strongly encouranged using foam rollers after working out.  The point behind using a foam roller is to work out sore spots as well as work knotts out.  This is a good cool down activity and makes you feel much better after using it.

Eating Habits

In the past few months I have really been trying to watch what I eat. When I was younger I could pretty much eat anything I wanted and could get away with it. However that has changed, I have to eat better foods, and also consume less of what I am eating to look the way I would like. I have been doing some research online to better educate myself on this topic. I found the following web site that gave me some good tips. http://www.flat-stomach-exercises.com/eating-habits.html

In addition to getting my MS in social work after completing my B.S. in PHYSH, I would love to own a gym where I can apply what I have learned with my PHYSH degree. The town that I currently live in does not have a gym and this website provides a lot of information on how to set up a successful and profitable gym.

Grad Schools for Masters of Social Work

I haven't completely decided what I want to do after college. I am torn between becoming a social worker or a teacher. For the sake of this assignment I am going to display the top two online colleges that I have chosen for the Master's of Social Work as this is more of the direction that I am going. I have chosen online colleges as I am unable to go to college and support my family without an income from a full time job.

Physical Activity and Health with two concentrations: DEGREE PLAN FOR EOU

I am currently pursuing my degree in Physical Activity and Health with concentrations in Health and Wellness Studies and Exercise Science. It took me a long time to figure out what I wanted to be when I “grew up”. I first started as a marketing major, then switched to nursing and then finally found my passion in Physical Activity and Health. Here is my personal journey towards my degree. The completed required courses are in red, the rest are gen-ed requirements as required by EOU or purely for enrichment.

Scholarly source: APA citations

In high school I went through the running start program where I took a few classes at Spokane Community College.  One of my classes was a literature class where one of our required texts was Brief Wadsworth Hanbook 5th Edition by Laurie g. Kirszner and Stephen R. Mandell.  It has been a few years since this text has been out but I have found that it has helped me a lot.  It contains all the information necessary to write research papers.  It walks through the correct ways to cite sources with either APA or MLA format.

APA citation for a book:

Authors last name, initials. (year of publication). Title with only first word and of title and subtitle capitalized. City, State. Publisher.

Grad School

For grad school I am interested in getting a masters of public health/health education. Kaplan University and Benedictine University both offer this degree online, which is what I am looking for and need.

Benedictine University has rolling admissions throughout the year. They require a bachelors degree from an accredited university with a minimum GPA of 3.0. To apply, a $40 application fee is required as well as a letter of recommendation, copy of resume, official transcripts, mission statement/personal goals and scores from the GRE, MAT, GMAT, LSAT, or MCAT.

Kaplan University requires the same- a bachelors degree, official transcripts, scores from the GRE, MAT, GMAT, LSAT or MCAT, as well as a letter of recommendation. An informational interview is required as well.

The website I found has a lot of good information for those who want to teach health. It offers ideas for teaching in elementary school, jr. high and high school. There are a lot of great ideas for lesson plans that cover the health curriculum.

Graduate School

As of right now I do not belive that I will be attending graduate school. I have officially decided that I am going to try and get into a nursing program this year. I am going to apply at OHSU, BMCC, and Walla Walla CC. I am still thinking about getting my minor in Physical Education and health, because along the way I will have elective classes that I will need to fill and that is my other biggest interest area. Therefore I will not be attending graduate school.

Great way to improve all aspects of physical health

I have just began doing kettlebells and I will suggest them to anybody who is interested in improving their overall health.  Kettlebells help with explosion, speed, agility, and will also help anybody interested in losing weight.  If anybody is interested in doing kettlebells they should get ahold of James Thomas he is a Certified RKC II trainer here in La Grande and is a great trainer, he is located on Adams Ave. at the Grande Ronde Kajukembo Dojo.  So if you are looking to better your self and improve your ability start doing kettlebells.

Training the Vertical Jump

The vertical jump is a very good way to support how the body uses explosion and force.  There are many ways to train for maximum height in the vertical jump.  Things like doing plyometrics, squat jumps, squats, cleans, and many other ways.
