Fitness for Life 2010-01
This page is a collection of work presented by HWS298 class at Eastern Oregon University for Winter 2010
Exercise Readiness
Mastery=12
Attitude=13
Health-16
Commitment=16
Scores above 12=chances are good that I will adhere to and exercise program.
I was actually surprised a little with the results because I thought that I would score lower. Although scoring 13 on the attitude towards exercise does not surprise me because I usually don’t have a lot of motivation to work out unless I have someone to go with.
The way we were
During the last several weeks as I have read, commented and now, flag projects, announcements, group collaborations and media projects, I attempted the media project, AGH! I wondered what could I add to this class? The conclusion I came up with was a commentary. A moment with Debra : I grew up in the 60's there were no fitness centers and hi tech exercise equipment. We went to the YMCA for fun not fitness. We took long walks outside, not on a treadmill. We rode bycycles outside not in a spinning class. We climbed mountains not rockmountains inside a building in downtown Portand. We did'nt need a pedometer to monitor our steps, we were to busy walking. We didn't swim for exercise we swam for fun. Are diets working
I think that dies are a waste of time and are just a good ways for these people that make up these ridiculous diets to make a easy dollar because they are lazy themselves. Don't eat carbs, only eat carbs, no red meat these diets are just stupid and they never have any facts to back them but todays society wants to loss weight over night and are hoping these stupid diets will do the trick with out having to get off their lazy butt. It matter what you eat and how much you eat but all you have to do is burn more calories then you eat and you will eat but it is much easier for americans to just try crazy diets but all it take is to get up and burn some calories. Standing rather then sitting
I remember watching a talk show that had a discusion about little tiny things that could make a big difference in your health. Things that would be easy to change or at least do more of. One was standing like with an office job or teaching. just standing rather then sitting can help burn more calories. i thouhg of a couple other things that also can be done. having one or maybe two phones in the house so if it rings you have to get up to answer it, waking to the mail box from the house and not driving up with the car, eat at a dinner table rather then infront of tv makes you move food and silverware in to another room, finally eatting a few hours before bed so you can burn some of those calories before sleeping. Great Muscle Work Out
If you are looking for a great DVD to work your core and muscle group, try “Cathe Muscle Max”. It incorporates free weights, and bands. It is designed to increase lean muscle mass and burn excess body fat. I developed my own routine, but it was kind of boring, I found that using this DVD is inspiring and fun; and much more challenging. With this and my daily runs, I feel I am getting a great weekly workout.
EOU Rock Climbing
At the beginning of the school year I started to go up to the rock wall in Quinn. Ever since then I have been totally hooked on it. It is a great fun way exercise and get to know people. When rock climbing you will use your hole entire body to preform moves and improve your entire fitness. The rock wall is open at 7pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays in Quinn. EOU also has a new rock climbing club. You do not have to be an avid climber to join, but just interested in climbing.
creating a passion for running!
Remind yourself to be patient as you begin a new training regimen. For those individuals who want to start again after a long break - possibly for childbirth, work-related travel, or to nurse an injury - also treat this as a new regimen. Many people begin new challenges full of unrealistic ambition and excitement, only to get discouraged and give up at the first sign of difficulty and failure. The first time you lace up your running shoes and head out for a jog, it may not be fun. Read more »
Positive thoughts lead to positive actions as far as health
if you go to this website
http://studio5.ksl.com/index.php?sid=9252707&nid=56
this is for specifically for women but I think men would benefit from some the tips/tools too! I think this is really neat. One thing I like is how positive thoughts can change your physical health the example they gave was walking by the mirror and instead of thinking "geez, I am getting so fat." you should think "you know I would really like to be thinner, I am going to do the 30 minutes of exercise that I have been putting off."
Flaggers Needed
Beyond comments, another good way to provide feedback is through flags. There hasn't been widespread flagging this term so far. Since it is a common way to communicate and control content in online settings, I suggest you do more of this with as you read others work in the class these final weeks.
Flagging is a notation or mark associated with content. There are several flag options on posts, which you will find linked at the bottom of each post. Simply click the appropriate flag and the work has been flagged. You can toggle the flag on or off by clicking the link. Read more »
Correct Running Form
I have never been a great runner, and have always gotten told I am a terrible runner. Since I have been running a lot for this class, and just to get into better shape lately, I thought this video was good help into little helpfull hints on how to be a good runner. So I thought I would share it with everyone in case you needed to know the correct form of running.
Stress Vulnerability
I scored a 60 on the stress vulnerability test. This means that my stress level is fair and that I am vulnerable to stress.
I think that my number is somewhat high because when it came to the questions about school and money; that is where I scored the highest. I think that with better time management and more physical activity my stress level will start to decrease.
Final Week of Work
Next week is the final week of classes. Focus on doing your fitness re-test that week. Use the exact same test that you did at the beginning of the term so that you have a good comparison with your changes in fitness. All of your work should be submitted by the end of the week (preferably sooner). Exam 3 will be posted at the end of the week and that will wrap up the class. Good work this term. The assignments and quality of work have definitely improved as the term has progressed. I will be grading your final work shortly and your grade will be accurate in the grade book after this and the exam score post.
Healthy Recipes
I was just looking on the internet for something to cook that was healthy for me. So I was browsing around a ton of different websites, and on foodnetwork.com there is an actual link on their home page that says healthy eating. If you click that and then their are some other options you can choose from! I found this to be an easy accessable website, with good food ideas so I thought I would share!
Check out this Website.

I really like how simple this website is and all the tips and tools their are for eating and exercising right. I found it to be very helpful and useful, especially when I was trying to find recipes and certain health food plans.
