Proposal Idea

I have been thinking about what I want to do for my proposal for quite a while now.  I think I have finally come up with a decent idea. I would love anyones input on if this idea would be viable or not.

My idea is to create a volleyball camp to be held at my old high school (Reardan High School).  I would have it for all girls entering 5th through 8th grade as a 4 or 5 day camp. I think it would be a great project as girls at that age level are often just getting into volleyball as they have opportunities to play it in junior high and in PE games against our rival school at the 5th and 6th grade level.

Risk Management Project

Risk Management Project

I examined a workout club that is open to people in the community upon purchasing a membership. The facility does not share the building with anything else, and is large with multiple rooms and workout areas.

The possible Risks of the fitness facility I observed:

1.  The health facility I evaluated didn’t have any first aid kits that were in visible sight to the people using the facility. The only first aid kits were behind the counter where the employees were stationed.  The facility could put first aid kits around the facility so they are accessible to members. Read more »

Exam 1 Opens This Week

It is important to focus on preparation for the first exam that opens at the end of this week. The "Know" section of the learning guide outlines the topics that are addressed for this exam. Of particular importance is the material in our textbook and the content I provide serves to supplement this with additional information. I would rate both exams in this class as difficult, so please come into the exam knowing the material very well. A practice quiz is also available, which you should take full advantage of. Inturmural project

Build character, important for youth to capture from sports.

Sports build character! This phrase is often used by community leaders, school officials, parents, and even average citizens when a discussion turns to the social functions of organized sports programs. Sports provide a social environment where personal and social attitudes, values and behaviors are acquired and what is learned in the sport setting transfers to other areas of an individual's life. Sports involve socialization, the building of new friendships and new interactions amongst adults and children.

Leadership-MJ

“Leaders lead.  A lot of people talk about leading, but in the end that’s all they’re doing, talking.  I have always led by example.  I don’t believe in talking about what I provide for others.  The last thing I need or want is to draw attention to myself.  That’s not who I am.  A good leader does not draw attention to himself, but strives to make others leaders,” as quoted by Michael Jordan.

Proposal Idea

I was thinking because I want to become a high school coach of either a softball team or basketball team, I should probably create something that involves either of these sports. I was thinking about putting together a boys and girls alumni basketball tournament, involving the high school teams. I would hold the tournament at Mount Baker high school in Deming, WA. It would be a weekend tournament and it would be held in two gyms located on the high school campus.

Its just a thought, just wondering if it would work. and if I am going in the right direction.

Proposal Ideas

I've been having a hard time thinking of a good proposal idea. I came up with 2 potential ones and would appreicate feedback.

1) Propasal to add personal trainer certification classes to the PHYSH degree plan. I know a lot of poeple, including myself who are interested in becoming certified, however our degree does not equip us for this.

2) Proposal for EOU to host a marathon/triathalon. I know a lot of people who run in these and have to go to Portland or Seattle to participate. What if we had one in Eastern Oregon?

Proposal Idea

My idea for a proposal was to propose that the school purchase a charter bus for the athletic teams. I believe ultimately this could save the school money by not having to rent a bus for all the trips that the school has to take. We would only have to pay the driver and not the company for the bus. Any feed back on this idea would be appreciated.

New EOU Fitness Center Equipment Arriving Soon

I'm sure those of you in La Grande will be interested to know that this week we are getting the first installment of our new equipment in the Eastern Oregon University Fitness Center. Last fall, on the opening day of the term, I went to Rob Cashell (Athletic Director) and broached the need for updating our equipment in the fitness center. The project progressed quickly from that point on. I'm proud to say that a lot of input was provided by you (the students) in a class project last term. Rob Cashell did some fantastic work to secure the funds and get approval for progressing the project to fruition in a very timely manner.

Here is the list of new equipment: Read more »

Question to the rest of the group.

In 2008 the government passed the Virginia Graham Baker Law requiring all pools and spas to update to a specialized drain cover.  This law was passed after the grandchild of a senator died after being suctioned to the bottom of a spa.  The senator quickly put the bill through without as much research as there could have been done.  This bill required all pools, even those that were gravity fed (no suction) to comply.  The update was supposed to be completed by December 18, 2008.  Those pools inspected after that date were subject to $10,000 a day or a maximum of $15 million fine for non-compliance.  We had essentially three pools to and a hot tub to bring in compliance.  At our indoor facility we decided to remove the hot tub since Read more »

Mission Statement

In creating my mission statement I thought of family, and spoke with my parents.  From talking with them I found that sometimes we don’t actually pay attention to life as it flies by so quickly.  With this in mind, I created my life’s mission statement and some short and long term goals.

I will strive to not lose sight of the real meaning of my life, the intangible vs tangible.  I will be a solid role model for my kids by participating in life while learning, growing, exploring, and not merely doing.

Short term goals:

Graduate Spring 2010, Liberal Studies business/health promotion

Support my kids in any endeavor

Spring 2011 begin Physical Therapy Assistant program

Long term goals: Read more »
