Exams are administered online without a proctor. Students are allowed to utilize sources such as the internet, classmates, discussion boards, text books, and additional readings. However, all information submitted must be original work from the student. To avoid harsh penalties for plagiarism, all copied and borrowed materials from sources must be properly cited. The same rules apply for information taken from the textbook, class notes, and class discussions. All essay responses must also be original work. Students are NOT allowed to turn in the same essays or copied materials from a partner's essays.
Time Limits: Each exam or quiz must be completed during the date range conveyed by the instructor. Students must complete and submit the test within the specified time limit. Once the test is started the time will run until it is submitted, regardless of what computer activity occurs during the exam. If an exam is started too close to the deadline time (e.g. 25 minutes below closing) the time limit will be cut shorter than the regular limit. To avoid this, start exams well before the closing time. For best performance within these time constraints, each student should have a thorough knowledge of the content and location of information before starting the test. Some classes include exams with essay items that require the student to type lengthy responses so typing speed is a success factor. The instructor considers typing and other computer competencies as important proficiencies for college students. Deficiencies in these areas should be improved through practice.
Time Zones: Exam dates and times are set according to Pacific Standard Time (UTC -8). However, settings are available on the testing site for each student to set their local time zone on their profile page. If set properly, this will automatically make adjustments to help avoid confusion based on time zones.
Technical Complications: If there is a problem during the exam, a student should quickly restart the exam and continue on with the saved information. Essay work should be periodically saved in a backup text editor.
Response Sensitivity: Always provide the answer that is most correct.
