Navigating My Group

You are missing some Flash content that should appear here! Perhaps your browser cannot display it, or maybe it did not initialise correctly.

Recommendations for navigating content as a group member.

  • Always login first: Most of your important navigational links are only available when you are logged in.
  • Checking in with the "My" Menus at the top: These areas contain the organized access to all of the content that you and others have created. These should be the staple of every visit to the site. Each of the "My" pages has several tab options for organization of the content. On most of these views, new posts and posts with new comments move to the top of the list. This is helpful for following the most recent activity.
  • The Group Page is your home: Once logged into the site, find the link for your group page on the right. Always return to this if you feel lost because the group page includes all of the information you need for that particular group.

Features available on the content: When viewing content (i.e. Posts), there are several interactive components. Depending on the content type, you may find:

  • Tabs at the top: editing the post, viewing revisions, seeing/participating in the discussion.
  • Links below the post: commenting, flagging the post, subscribing for notifications.

Other advanced tricks you may find useful.

  • Engagement: Use the "My" pages at the top to follow the work and conversations you are participating in. For example, if you are involved in a discussion (by starting it or commenting), it is easy to follow the conversation in the "My Work" page since this will list everything you have contributed too, along with an indication if new comments have been added.
  • Revise and keep track of your work using the My Work link: You will also find an edit button next to your content to quickly edit your work
  • Don't miss an important announcement. Make sure you don't miss an announcement. Under the "My Unread" page there is a tab that lists only announcements.
  • Get a feed: Add RSS feeds to your favorite reader. Many pages have RSS feeds that you can subscribe to the content added to these pages.
  • Subscribe: Subscribing means you can get email notifications when new content is added. For example, you could subscribe to all announcements for your group and this will send you an email each time an announcement is added. Or, use the subscribe link on certain posts to get email announcements when content is updated or comments are added. Subscriptions are managed at your account page.
