I'll research and post a Russian dance Troika if you want!
Please add your Troika lesson. I think it's great and just what we need! Love that you have the video...makes it so much easier to understand the dances when you see them.
I've added my introductory lesson on square dancing. It's one I actually use at the beginning of the unit. I like starting with a general circle dance as it's less complicated than setting them up into squares. I've found that remembering the steps is overwhelming enough for them!
Thanks, Rosette. I like this squaredancing version of the dance. It's a good intro to some of the basics of square dancing without getting into the squares.
I am adding another version of the Shoemaker's dance for grades 2-3 using lummi sticks.

I mistook the title of your lesson as "Shoemakers Dance" because that was the title of the dance before your square dance lesson. (I started that lesson and obviously didn't get much farther than the the title.)So, disregard my last comment. Thanks for contributing!
The troika dance is posted... you might need to edit it a little bit to fit your format.
Thanks. Angela. It is a perfect addition to the collaboration! Now if we can just get a few more people to add a dance......HELLLOOOOOOO!!!!!!
So I added or "tried to add" a new dance (The Waltz) to the collaboration but when I hit save it completely changed the format of it! Ahhhhhh! So I made it into a PDF, but I am not sure how to attach it to the collaboration..... Some of the images which show the dance steps didnt even post to the page!

Also I tried to just simply delete what I added because the format on some of the graphs was really messed up but for some reason the site freaks out when I do....
Okay so I have never helped with a collaboration, and I am not really sure what I am supposed to do. Does anyone have any ideas to help me?
Okay so I think I have fixed the issues I had with my portion I added, instead of putting in the graphs and images which showed a great view of how to do the steps of the Waltz I simply noted the webpage where I found each of them. This should have cleaned up some of the formating issues I was dealing with! Hopefully you like what I added to the collaboration!
And Kami- from what I understand for this collaboration you simply pick a dance not yet covered, fill in the information that Beth has stated she would like included and then add it into the collaboration on the edit page. Hopefully that helps you! I was having trouble getting my added information to save and be formaatted correctly, something about a 'script' running on the page... Not sure what that is but after some time I finally got a decent version to save!
Noelle - I really like your lesson. I think it is wonderful. Thanks for adding.
Kami - exactly what Noelle said - search the net for cultural dances to teach students, turn it into a lesson and add it via the edit page. I separated the dances into 2 categories: K-2 and 3-6. If your dance fits better at a higher grade level then just add another section. It's all pretty loose, so don't worry about being exact. Would LOVE a video demo of the dance, but do the best you can.
I would like to add line dancing, which evolved from dances performed in New England during the 1800's. I hope this is ok to add for another cultural dance from America, besides square dancing.
That would be fine, Penny. Thanks!! I just spent 2 hours adding my dances and logged off without saving!!! AAAHHHHH!!!!
I'm working on the formatting of this collaboration in Word then will move it over to Googledocs once I know everyone who wants to contribute has done so. Add directly to this document via the EDIT tab and I will format it.

The link above is a lesson plan I found online that would possibly contribute to your collaboration effort. The following are the objectives from the lesson:
•Students will be able to perform the dance/game “Little Johnny Brown.”
•Students will create and perform non-locomotor movements emphasizing the accent in music.
•Students will know the ways that dance demonstrates community values and history
This looks really good. Thanks for finding it.
I'm going to close the collaboration as of today so I can focus on getting it finalized in Word to make it look pretty!
I took the doc and put it on googgledocs so the formatting would remain and the videos could be viewed. I hope clicking the link will take you there. Thanks for all who collaborated.

The document looks great Beth! Nice work on putting it all together and making it 'pretty'!
Great job Beth! Thanks for doing this!
Thanks, Guys. I added pretty borders and clip art of folk dancing, but I guess that wasn't compatible with googledoc??? Oh well. It's DONE!!
Have you finsihed the collaboration? I was wondering if anyone had a dance that would be good to do a lesson on? I know nothing about dance, and when looking up dances to do I couldn't find anything that wasn't already used. If you have any ideas or if this is finished please let me know. Thanks!I want to post a lesson plan just have been extremely busy with school, sports, and family issues.
Hi Kami-
It is finished and is on googledocs. the link is 5 posts up. Sorry
The collaboration turned out really well. I was really impressed reading all the works you guys put into it. Great job!
WOW! This turned out great! I just looked at it and the amount of time and effort that went in was amazing, as well as the finished product. Eventhouh I was not one of the students who contributed to it, as my weaknesses in this course includes dance,I was impressed with everyone's contributions!
Thanks Chris. I had fun adding to the collaboration and thank you to everyone else who made a contributions. I'd like to supply the songs I used for my dances but they are saved as m4a files and I'm not sure how to post them since the media option doesn't take that extension. Any ideas?
