New EOU Fitness Center Equipment Arriving Soon

I'm sure those of you in La Grande will be interested to know that this week we are getting the first installment of our new equipment in the Eastern Oregon University Fitness Center. Last fall, on the opening day of the term, I went to Rob Cashell (Athletic Director) and broached the need for updating our equipment in the fitness center. The project progressed quickly from that point on. I'm proud to say that a lot of input was provided by you (the students) in a class project last term. Rob Cashell did some fantastic work to secure the funds and get approval for progressing the project to fruition in a very timely manner.

Here is the list of new equipment:

That is great new, i'm sure all the students that frequently use the training room will appreciate the effort you put into it, as well the college staff.

I work in there and it is a nice place. Much better than what I was had at Linfield.

I really like the improvements that are happening in the weight room. I am curious as to why the dumbbells would only be replaced up through 55lbs? I understand that these are the most frequently used, but the larger dumbbells are in great need of replacement as they are often dropped and bent. I dont understand why a full new matching set was not done at one time.

I'm not sure on the dumbbells, since that wasn't something we were recommending in our class project. Too bad you weren't part of that project. This must have been based on some input from coaches. This certainly could be something we target in future improvement. We also may have some money on the Physical Activity Department that can go toward certain improvements, so that would be something that a major's club would be good to provide recommendations on.

This is great news and is very exciting for all of us students and especially us athletes.

I was present in the Fitness Center today, which was closed for use, but was able to receive a tour and an explanation of what new equipment would be available. I use the Fitness Center frequently and look forward to using the new equipment and utilizing the reorganization of the Fitness Center. Those involved in this improvement process have done a great job overall!

Thanks!

Very Excited! Especially for the new Bikes since that is my favorite cardio workout.

New workout equipment is nice, but a lot of it did not need to be replaced such as the weight benches. For being so short on money you would think we'd spend what we have more wisely.

DelRae, these bikes are also extra special as a couple will have power meters on them. This will allow for some special training protocols and they can be used for laboratory fitness testing. They'll work like a regular spin bike, but anyone who is serious about racing a bike (triathlon and road racing) will recognize this key feature as the current paradigm in training. Not many spin bikes have power meters.

Perri, we'll have to see how much these benches get used but I know that it was a request mentioned in the class project and must have also been something coaches needed more of. However, I'm sure you'll enjoy the higher speed that the new treadmills are supposed to have. Maybe they'll keep up with your legs better and give a second option for avoiding another season-altering injury on the ice.

Already ran on those treadmills and they are amazing! Any chance their could be spin classes with those bikes?

:-(

Too bad I live in AZ and can't give the equipment a try.

Sounds great getting new equipment. I agree with Andy though why stop at 55 lbs. db. Most of us guys us those for warmup. I have owned a few gyms over the years and all the new stuff still sounds great. Too bad I don't live in the area to take advantage of it.

The new equipment in the Fitness Center is a great upgrade from what we had. I use the facility on a daily basis and know that there have been many times I have had to wait for a treadmill or a bench station. Especially when working out with my volleyball team patience has been needed for everyone to share the equipment to get through the exercises. The new equipment makes for a much more efficient workout and is very much appreciated! Also, knowing it was a project done by a class is very encouraging as we work on our projects. This shows that these projects can not only make an impact, but can do so in a timely manner where we can all enjoy the results.

Julia Marie, I've been conversing with Jody Lusted since last term about possibly working out some spin classes. You might want to contact her directly on her contact form.
