Proposal Idea
I was thinking because I want to become a high school coach of either a softball team or basketball team, I should probably create something that involves either of these sports. I was thinking about putting together a boys and girls alumni basketball tournament, involving the high school teams. I would hold the tournament at Mount Baker high school in Deming, WA. It would be a weekend tournament and it would be held in two gyms located on the high school campus.
Its just a thought, just wondering if it would work. and if I am going in the right direction.

This would be a good proposal, because planning a tournament like this includes a lot of work. I'm sure you'll be able to find similar models for tournaments that you can investigate to get advice on how to plan a good tournament. Also, this was posted to the Coaching class, so I moved it here to the Sport Management because I assume that is where you intended it to be. Let me know if you didn't.
It sounds like you have already put a lot of thought into this. Have you already though of how many schools you would be inviting?
Hosting mini tournaments is a great way for coaches to assess the level of talent and determine areas of improvement within their own teams. I would also consider inviting teams from outside to the area. I know that many of our local basketball teams go to the Nike Tournament in Las Vegas as it provides our players with more exposure.
I came up with a new idea that is actually in the future for me. I am not sure which one I will choose. This summer I am going to help coach a select softball team and right now we are in the process of getting the players together and finding tournaments to play in. This process would include: finding and asking players to play, find and locate tournaments, raise money to afford those tournaments, order jersey's and raise money to pay for those jerseys, develop a schedule for games and practices, find a place to practice, and gather enough equipment to practice with.
I think this would be an in depth enough project, plus I am helping with it this summer so I would be assisting in all of these task, starting now. Let me know what you think I want to get started gethering info now.

So your new proposal idea would be Starting a New Softball Team? The idea is that you are proposing something new or a significant addition to an existing program. If you are just proposing the tasks that are part of an already established team then it wouldn't be a good proposal idea. Otherwise, a new team is a good idea for a topic.
It would be a new team. We are getting a tournament team together. The players will consist of athletes from different high schools rather than just one. We would have to look for tournaments, and buy jerseys and make a practice and game schedule. It would be the whole process of putting a team together.
