Equipment: Mats

Objectives: Learn the warm-up routine and be able to execute the routine with verbal cues. Perform a walk, run, hop, skip, and jump in succession. Perform a slide, a gallop, and a combination of 2 skills. Know the safety rules.

Warm Up: Listen and Move

Give instructions as quickly as the students can complete the tasks:

"Make 10 big arm circles"

"Touch your toes, reach for the sky" (repeat 5 times)

"Slide 10 steps to the right"

"Skip 10 skips forward"

"Jump as high as you can, 10 times"

"Hop on right foot 10 times"

"Twist your torso right, the left" (repeat 5 times)

Time: 5 Minutes

Skill-Development Activity: Rythmic Activity

Arrange the children in scatter formation

Demonstrate and describe each move and then have the students practice them. After teaching all of the moves, put them into a routine at the end.

"Head Circles"

The student makes a circle with the head while providing support with the hands (chin to chest, then ear to shoulder, head to back, ear to opposite shoulder, chin on chest), then reverses. The hands should be placed palms abover ears, fingers over top of skull.

"Shoulder Circles"

The student rolls the shoulders in circles forward then backward (hands on hips).

"Torso Stretch"

With arms extended overhead, the child stretches to the side, rear, opposite side, front. 

Repeat 2 times

"Hamstring Stretch"

The child bends to a squat position with hands on floor in front of the body, then slowly straightens legs upward.

Repeat 5 times

"Ankle Rotations"

Sitting on the floor, with legs extended in a V position in front, the child moves the ankles so the geet and toes make circles.

Have them make 3 circles in each direction

"Back Arch"

Rollin over onto stomach, with legs extended and together behind, arms supporting part of the body weight and in front, the child looks up to the ceiling, arching head and neck back as far as comfortable, and continues pushing backward with the arms to increase the back arch as far as possible. Hips should be kept on the floor and the legs should be kept straight and together.

"20 Sit-Ups"

The children do as man sit-ups as possible, up to 20. Knees should be bent, arms folded across the chest.

"10 Push-ups"

The children do as many Push-ups as possible, up to 10. The body should be straight, with the arms bending at the elbow to raise and lower the body.

"Skip 20 steps Clockwise"

"10 Vertical Jumps"

Jumps should be straight up

"Jog 1 minute"

Have the children try to do this without stopping.

Routine

Head Circle right, Head Circle left.

ShoulderCircle forward (3), Shoulder Circle Backward (3).

Torso Stretch (side, back, side, front). Repeat 3 times.

Hamstring Stretch (Squat to straighten) Repeat 5 times.

Ankle Rotations inward (3), Ankle Rotations outward (3).

Back Arches (5)

Sit-Ups (20)

Push-Ups (10)

Skip 20 skips clockwise

10 Vertical Jumps

Jog 1 minute continuously

Teaching Cues: Follow Directions

                       Do your best

Time: 20 minutes

Concluding Activity: Locomotor Person

Divide the children into 4 groups

The children move across the play area in groups using the patterns we call out, as follows:

"skip"

"Hop on your right foot"

"Gallop with your left foot leading"

"Slide with your right foot leading"

"jog"

"Slide with your left foot leading"

"Leap"

"Hop with your left foot leading"

"Gallop with your right foot leading"

Teaching Cues: Do not touch anyone else

                       Follow Directions

This lesson went really well. The students listened well and were able to execute all of the stretches that we we implementing. Our transitions were smooth and the class overall when really well. I think Shay and I are really getting a good understanding on how to manage the class and the best way to introduce activities.
