Lesson Plan #4 for Central Elementary 1st graders
Instructor: Kami Hernandez and Kimmy Moore
Grade Level: 1st Grade
School Name: Central Elementary School
Date: February 2, 2010
Equipment: Hoola Hoops
Objectives: - Students will create unique movements to represent objects, animals and things.
- Students will use various locomotor skills.
Introductory Activity: “Creating Movements”
Time: 10 minutes
Have children scatter around gym.
“Pretend you are a witch (giant, dragon, monster, elephant, duck, giraffe, kangaroo, snake, rabbit, the wind, dog, mouse)”
“Pretend you are swimming (flying, riding a bike, train)”
“Pretend you are walking on ice (on lava)
Teaching Cues:
Listen carefully.
Fitness Activity: “One, Two, Three”
Time: 10 minutes
Arrange students in scatter formation with a hoop on the ground.
On “ONE” students run freely around the hoops.” On “TWO” the students make bridges over the hoops with their bodies. On “THREE” the students jump in place inside the hoops.
Instead of running, skip, jump around hoops.
Specify the direction of the movement (forward, backward, sideways, in a circle)
Specify the type of bridge (front, high, low, narrow, wide)
Have them hop inside of the hoop.
Teaching Cues: One means to run around hoop.
Two means make bridge over hoop.
Three means jump inside of hoop.
Hop with one foot.
Closing Activity/Game: “Line Tag”
Time: 10 minutes
Gather students in a circle to explain the game. Pick two students who were listening well in class to be taggers. Everyone else needs to spread out on a line. The children will play tag, but they must stay on the lines at all times. If you get tagged you must sit down on the line and act as a road block. No one can go around you, not even the taggers. You are not allowed to jump from line to line. Always have to be following a line (basketball court lines)
Teaching Cues: Make sure you are on a line.
If tagged sit down.
Tag softly.

This looks like a great lesson plan! I think you have some great cues, and I like how you list more than one on many of the activities. Also, each of your activities have the students moving and active the entire time, which is extremely important as part of at PE lesson plan. I really like the creating movements activity, we did this for our group of 1st graders at Central Elementary and they had a lot of fun with it! It allowed the children to use thier minds and imaginations to decide how a certain animal or structure looked and how they were going to make their body look like it, and also kept them active. Overall this is a great lesson, nice job keep up the good work!
Great job Kami! Did those activities really take 10 min? We schedule each activity for 5 min. and it seems to be about the right time for our group. Just curious.
Angela:
We actually cut the time down for the first 2 activities so that they could play tag a little longer.
