DISCIPLINE PROJECT
PERSONAL PRINCIPALS
As a coach and role model for young women, I find it imperative to behave in such a manner that is viewed as morally and ethically upstanding at all times. I will obey the laws of the land, make every effort to provide a safe and emotionally healthy environment for those I teach, and encourage character building, athleticism and personal growth in young women athletes. I am a human that is capable of making mistakes. In order to reduce human error, I am dedicated to continued education and I personally advocate for open and frequent communication. A coach who is aware can take action to instigate positive change.
THEORIES
An athlete is not someone with physical talent alone, but who also possesses teach-ability, selflessness, high achievement standards, is morally and ethically sound, is committed to work, strives for physical and mental fitness, and possesses sportsmanlike behaviors. In addition, working and participating as part of a team allows the whole of the team to accomplish something greater than any one of its components could alone. Further, a supportive foundation of parents, administrators, volunteers, and fans is integral to the success of any team. Lastly, spending time together as a team to learn about one another personally and to understand team and individual goals perpetuates a genuine desire to help each other achieve success. These components together form an environment that encourages success.
PROGRAM PHILOSOPHY
The philosophy of our program is to teach the game of volleyball while promoting a safe environment that elicits fun and provides an opportunity for growth as athletes and young women. There are high expectations for the young women participating in my volleyball program. They are expected to begin the season physically fit and with a positive mental attitude. Each athlete must comply with the high school student handbook, meet student athlete eligibility requirements and lastly, abide by the rules of my player/parent contract throughout the season.
NOTE:
I have attached a copy of our player/parent contract which outlines participation rules, contains preventative measures, and is intended to proactively diminish discipline problems. The document is reviewed at our annual parent/player information meeting and must be signed by both the athlete and parent in order to participate in my volleyball program. I have also included our “team motto” developed by myself and former players. Players like consistency and I have established a routine of reciting the motto before each game on the court in a circle. The girls hate to start a game without it. The intent of these documents is to further define the expectations I have for the players as individuals, myself, and the team.

GREAT JOB ON THIS!!!
Nice job!
I completely agree with you that an athlete is not just talent alone, but has many other attributes that contribute to their talent. I think it is extremely important for any athlete to have a positive and up beat attitude. As a peer player and a coach I feel that players who are very talented but have bad attitudes are lower on my list than players who don't have as much talent but who are encouraging to their teammates, and have a great attitude when it comes to all circumstances.
I think your project was very informative!
