Article- Psychological Characteristics of Younger and Older Coaches

I recently read a very interesting article titled- Psychological  Characteristics of younger and older coaches.   Authors-Dimec,T and Kajtna T. It can be found on Sports Discs, Kinesiology 41(2009) 2:172-180.  The article discusses how coaching is a very stressful job, requiring hard work and dedication. The article looks at the differences between new coaches and older  more experienced coaches.  The newer coaches were more agreeable and better at handling their emotions. the older more experienced coaches reported more often that coaching was a source of problems. The authors stated that research from  the aspect of stress at work found that coaches frequently experienced lots of stress and burnout, that the conflict of roles causes emotional exhaustion, with the less experienced head coach experiencing decreased self-confidence. Coaches that speed lots of time taking care of athletes, experience burn out more frequently, this was explained by the energy involved with emotional involvment, as well as the care of their athletes, causes coaches to pay less attention to their own needs. -I can personally relate to this article. I'am a new coach with only 4years experience and this season has been my most stressfull season to date. Anyways, I think this article is a good source of information. Thanks-

Do you think it can have to do with personalities not just age. I know an older coach like 70's that I loved. He really knew his stuff and had nothing but time to get donate to his teams. I also know young ones that had egos that got in the way and they hadn't been around long enough to have been through each scenario that might come from experience.
