DIFFERENT COACHING PHILOSOPHY

I was doing a little looking around online tonight about different philosophys on coaching to get some different insights and came across this from the coach from Grinnell college named Coach Hollibaugh and really could feel what he was wanting to teach his players.  Here is the link to his web page: http://www.grinnell.edu/athletics/baseball/missionphilosophy/.  Hope this might help some of you to zero in on what you all want to instill in your players.

The mission: "First we will be best, and then we will be first." You can really expect no more from your players then their best so this is an interesting opening line.
I like the idea of the films while you are talking about it so you make the connections. I totally agree with “Championships are won on the practice field. Thinking and skill work should be done in practice, not in games.” Like golf if done right it should be like muscle memory.

Charles thanks for posting this website. Even though I have only just started exploring what I want my coaching philosophy to be because of this class, I have already made some changes. I like that Coach Hollibaugh created several different philosophy within one program (baseball). Coach Hollibaugh’s general philosophy of “ Our coaches are teachers first” is a great foundation for any type of sports program.

Here’s a great link and tool to use when trying to figure out what your personal coaching philosophy is or can be. For those that have a coaching philosophy, the site can help you reflect on your philosophy.

It is a really interesting philosophy, but it is good and at the same time challeging reading through different philosophies, and realize different things that different coaches emphasize on their athletes! John Wooden is definately my favourite, but i still like to read different philosphies that will guide me to create mine, while learning. thanks for sharing

Thanks for the feedback.
