Video Analysis: Self Defense

I found the self defense portion of our class particularly interesting and valuable. I found this video that I think demonstrates a certain senario andself defense moves very well. This is the "Choke against the wall."

Tips:

*Choke against a wall is actually better then in the open because the wall gives support and can help keep you off the ground.

*Use your surrounding (i.e. the wall)

*When the choke against the wall happens, if you are able, first try to get to their face. Put your arms to the inside (giving shoulder room) and go for their nose. (A broken nose will cause eyes to water and normally a person to put their hands on their face.)

*If you are able, strike the arm (in the crease of the elbow causing it to bend), then strike the nose in the upward motion, grab the head, and slide sideways on the wall pushing his head into the wall. Once they are into the wall, strike several times in the face until they go to the ground, and if able, kick in the groin (if male).

*In this situation you should NOT use your knee to hit them in the groin. When hit in the groin, their natural reaction will be to hunch forward and could hit you in the face when hunching or get to the ground and grab your legs. With your back against the wall, this hit would work against you.

*If the attacker has too long of arms and their face is out of your reach, you can hit the arm down with your elbow (as before) and grab their clothing to throw them against the wall. Once of the wall, strike the nose and/or groin.

*As they show at the end of the video, in real life, the speed of your actions must be fast. And always remember what our book said, make you attacks count. If you only injur them slightly or don'tmake them unable to attack further, it will only make them more angry and cause more harm to you. Make sure your attacks count.

I like this video alot. The cues and scenarios that given were great descriptors on when and how this move should be excuted appropriatly. Great research on a detailed video.
