                                                           K-5 Scoring Guide

Objective: The following rubric is used to analyze the soccer skill level of elementary students.

Directions: Circle the following skill level that pertains to the student’s skills and abilities.

1  The Student attempts to pass the ball to a Classmate.

2  The Student has attempted the skill before and has common knowledge of the skill.

*I found through both teaching and coaching soccer this skill analysis can be very beneficial. All students develop at different levels especially with the specialization of young athletes today. This guide grades of basic fundamentals that I have seen through my personal experience as a player, coach and educator.

I think that overall this is a great rubrics. I have just a few suggestions: For trapping and dribbling the #5 may be too hard to obtain for their age level, especially the trapping. Students should feel it is possible to reach the highest points. Also, you may not want to include into any of the discriptions "prior knowledge." Not only can it be hard to know who has played before, but it can make students feel discouraged just because they have never played before. And even players who have never played can be naturally skilled and fit into a higher category. It's just a tricky aspect to invlove in your rubrics.

One last though. About #5 on the trapping and dribbling, if you wanted to, you could allow bonus points to students who can accomplish these. Because though most students may not be able too, those who can should still get acknowledgment.
