Offseason Team Building
One of the most important characteristics of a good team is team camaraderie. Many high school and collegiate athletic programs conduct various different team building activities to bring the team closer in the off-season, and to boost team morale. I thought of a team building program that I would conduct for a college football team. First I would have the team members write down different activities they would like to participate in as a team. I would take these activities and spread them throughout the off-season, and use them to bring our team together. I would schedule the team building exercises on a weekday, where we do not have any football related activity so I will not take up too much of the players time since they also have to complete school work, and the weekends are students time to catch up on their work and to relax. The reason I would allow the team to choose the exercises, is because people put more effort into activities they want to do, and if they want to be there, they will get more out of the activity.

I play on the womens basketball team and on one weekend usually in october we have what is called commitment weekend. This weekend is for showing how far a person will go for there teammates. This year we had fear factor weekend we stayed in cabins in the woods, one person in each cabin, and were not allowed to have flash lights during the night we also had to eat gross food and do the firefighting test. This weekend brought our team closer and we now know we would do pretty much anything for eachother .
I play on the softball team and there was one weekend where we traveled to Boise and went paintballing:) It was so much fun and it was the first time some of us had seen the other girls outside of softball. We spent the night in a hotel and went out to dinner together and played games that whole night. I don't think we went to bed until around 12:30 am. It was a really good way to get to know eachother and build stronger relationships in the team.
