Team Building Activity
An important characteristic of a good team is having team camaraderie. Everyone on the team doesn’t have to be best friends. Some players may not have anything in common and would never been friends outside of the team. I think this is fine you can’t expect everyone to be friends off the field, but as a coach it is important that you teach your athletes to get along and work together. In a real life situation you may not like your co-workers, but it is important to be able to work with each other. This is an important skill that is important for your athletes to learn.
It is important for a team to have good camaraderie. An activity for your team would to be have team dinners together. The dinners could be before every home game, and the players take turns hosting the dinners. This is time for the players to relax and enjoy their time. I think team dinners bring the team closer to gather and are better able to work together. Your players will learn how to work and deal with people they may not like, which is a good life skill.

I agree... This is a very important part. It helps your athletes to communicate on and off the court, but if they can communicate better, it is only going to improve their game. Also, it helps with team chemistry. Team chemistry is very important. Everyone needs to be able to trust each other, otherwise on the court they are going to struggle with this concept. Great thing that you bring up, team chemistry is very very important, maybe one of the most important things.

Krista I think you make some good points about team camaraderie. I’m glad you made the point that players are not always going to be friends off the field. It’s more realistic to set the expectation that student athletes will learn to work together and respect each other. Another sports team building activity that I have seen used at the beginning of a season is rock climbing courses. It’s a great way to learn to trust teammates and effective communication.
