High School Softball Practice Plan

3:00-3:15 Warm up, jog around field along fence twice, meet in center field and team stretch.

3:15-3:30 Warm up throwing. Start close and progressively get farther back. Infielders match with other infielders and practice quick throws, outfielders with outfielders and practice long throws, and pitcher/catchers warm-up pitching.

3:30-4:00 Split up into outfielders and infielders and perform skills practices. One coach with each group. Some skills to work on for infield would be simple grounders, double plays, bunt defense, line drives, throw downs, stealing situations, 1st and 3rds, short hops, etc. Outfield drills could include making sure first step is back, fly balls in all areas of field, instilling two-hands concept, slide catching, etc.

4:00-4:30 Bring whole team together to do entire field practice. Coach hits ball to different areas. Those who aren't on the field are running bases. Practice different situations and bringing all the previous skills/drills together to enhance performance as a team and individually.

4:30-4:45 Conditioning. Running bases, practicing leading off, and other conditioning drills.

4:45-5:00 Cool down. Bring team together to talk about practice, what went well, what we need to work on, and other pertinent information dealing with what time of the season it is, if there's a game the next day, etc.

I never played softball, but this seems like a very detailed and thought out practice plan. I liked how you matched up the infielders with infielders, outfielders with outfielders, etc. I also liked how you started out with individual drills, and then you bring them all together to do a team building drill in a game like situation. Ended with a cool down and a small evaluation!
