Grade level: 2nd and 3rd

Objectives:
Kids participate in all activies.
Kids get their heart rate up.

Equipment:
Jump ropes, hula hoops, cones, stop watch, music

Animal Movements
Students will spread out along the out side of the gym equally. The teacher will call out a movement and the kids will perform them. Examples of some movements are: crab walk, kangaroo jump (long jumps), rabbit jumps (short, quick jumps), bear walk, and alligator crawl (on the ground, like army crawl).

Main Activity:
Circuit
The main focus in this lesson plan is physical fitness.

There will be different 6 different stations with a max of 6 students at each station rotating together. Groups will rotate every 30 seconds, with 10 seconds to get to the next station. Students will rotate when the music stops playing, and start when the music begins again. Stations will be set up around the gym. The circuit will be around 12 minutes long. Each student will go to each station 3 times.

Station 1: Jump rope
Station 2: Push ups
Station 3: Agility Run: Cones set up 10 feet apart, students must ran back and forth from cone to cone as fast and they can.
Station 4: Sit ups
Station 5: Jumping Jacks
Station 6: Hula Hoop

Closing/Cool Down Activity:
What time is it Mr. Fox
3 students will be Mr. Fox at one end of the gym, with their backs towards the hens. The rest of the students will be hens at the other end of the gym. The hens will ask Mr. Fox. "What time is it Mr. Fox?" Mr. Fox will reply with any time from 1 O'clock to 11 O'clock. Whatever time Mr. Fox says, the hens will take that many steps towards the foxes. Whenever Mr. Fox is ready, when asked what time it is they will reply Midnight, turn around and try to catch as many hens as they can before they get back to foxes until there is 3 hens left. They will become the foxes.

Comments

It looks like it could be alot of fun I really think my 3rd graders would enjoy this. My only concern is that if I had to substatute for you for this activity I would feel a little stressed because of the lack of time line. What I mean is that it has an approximate time for rotaion but you might want to break it down even further:

How much time to set up or take down?
How much time to give instruction?
How much time for warm up?
How much time to discuse safty?
What is the total time for all of ths lesson activity going to be?

The Idea is to break the time line down into smaller bites. This allows someone who might be subing for you or even when it is your first time teaching this lesson to maintain an awarness of time IE: do I need to cut something out or alter something this is something you should be able to do at a glance using your lesson plan. I hope this helps

Yes I understand what you are saying! Thanks for the tips. I never really thought of doing a time line like you suggested. I think that would really help me because I always feel like I have too much stuff and not enough time or not enough activities planned for the kids to do. Thanks a lot of the tips!

Besides the above comments of the time line, I think the lesson plan looks awesome. 3rd and 4th graders should really enjoy the different activities, and should be entertained while getting good cardio.

I like the version of Mr. Fox, I had never seen it like that, makes more sense then the way I did it.
