Basic Sport Skills Unit Plan for Development Level II
In this Unit plan we will work on catching, throwing, stiking, receiving/feilding, and class favorites. It will be a 4 week Unit, with 3 classes a week. I will contribute the first lesson plan for each week, so since this is a collaberation we need people to contribute a lesson plan for each of the last 2 classes each week (a total of 8 more lesson plans).
OBJECTIVES:
1) Students learn the correct form for each of the 4 skills listed above in different games/activities.
2) Students learn that when throwing your partner must be looking before you throw so your partner does not get hurt.
3) Students learn that before striking an object make sure no one is close enough to get hurt.
4) Students learn that when throwing to make sure they point to the target with non throwng hand.
5) Students learn team work.

LESSON PLAN - WEEK 1
Day 1:
EQUIPMENT NEEDED: bean bags, squishy softballs, and whistle.
INTRODUCTORY ACTIVITY:
Run and Freeze - The students will wait for class to start outside the gym door, when the door opens the kids will start to run around the gym however and where ever they like. When I blow my whistle, each child will freeze in a creative position of their choice and try to hold it until I say "go". We will continue this for about 2 or 3 minutes.
Transitional activity: Tortious and hare - When instructor says hare students will run as fast as they can until the instructor says tortious, when they will do a slow motion run. When the instructor blows the whistle the students will go toe-to-toe with one other student who is closets to them and wait for instructions.
Teaching cues - Use creative poses.
FITNESS ACTIVITY:
Crab kick - Start in crab position with knees at a 90 degree angle and back parallel to floor. Make sure buttocks stay up and does not sag. On instructors count the student will kick right leg up then back down as count one. Switch to left leg repeating motion as count two. Repeat for a total of ten counts (five each leg), take a 15 second break. Repeat this sequence two more times.
Teaching cues - Push your belly up. Keep your leg straight. Kick as high as you can.
Transitional activity: Tortious and hare
LESSON FOCUS:
Throwing and catching - Grip the ball with three fingers on top of the ball and your pinky and thumb on either side of the ball. Hold ball in fingers, not in the palm of your hand. Right handed throwing - stand with left side of body toward target. bring ball in right hand behind head at ear level. Bend left arm up and point toward target with elbow. Step with left foot toward target. While bringing arm forward to release, rotate hips. Catching - Watch ball all the way to your hands. Practice throwing and catching with a partner. Instructor will walk around making corrections as needed, and praising correct performance.
Teaching cues - Make a soft home for the ball. Keep your eye on the ball. Step to your partner. Point with your elbow.
Transitional activity: Tortious and hare
CLOSING ACTIVITY:
One step - One partner will run get a squishy softball and run back to waiting partner. Pairs will get about ten feet apart and use correct throwing form and over hand throw to eachother. With each successful throw and catch the thrower will take one step back. The pair that goes the farthest back without dropping the softball wins. If softball is dropped the pair sits down and watches while the other students get to continue playing.
Throw and run - Students will get into groups of eight. Each group will have one ball. Groups will then seperate into two groups of four and stand in line with one student at the front of each line. When the instructor says go, the student with the ball will throw it (using correct form) to the person at the front of the other line. Once the person throws the ball they follow it and get in the end of the line they threw it too. The group that throws it the most times without dropping it wins. If the ball is dropped the counting starts over.
Teaching cues - Make a soft home for the ball. Keep your eye on the ball. Step to your partner. Point with your elbow.
