On the collaboration does anyone know what day they would want to work on shooting? I will add the rubric that I wrote to the collaboration a few days after they are taught to shoot and have some time to practice. If you want me to put it in someplace else let me know

I think that somtime at the beginning of week two or at the end of week one we could add in the shooting because shooting is a fundamental skill. Maybe you could do shooting around the first wed or thurs and then they will have time to practice. Then the rubric could be put in on friday. They can have thursday as a type of practice day to put into action their passing, shooting and ball handling drills. Just ideas...let me know what you think!

I think that would be great. I will add the shooting rubric on the week 2 friday and shooting on wednesday

Oooops. I added a shooting lesson that needs editing and revising before I read this discussion. I only read the comments under the revisions tab.I'm not sure the difference between the LOG and the DISCUSSION.....anyone? Anyone? (Ferris Bueller....)

I called the introductory activity a "Warm Up Activity" because I like the students to get active right away with a simple activity that is easy to explain and do. Sometimes it is a practice of a previously learned skill or just a fun activity to warm up large muscles. Id that ok?

Also, I see the names of some drills in the outline, but I don't see the drill explanation. Is it somewhere that I don't see or is that just a note of the types of drills you are seeking?

Here's my thoughts...week one teach all ball handling fundamentals (shooting, dribbling, and passing) then do a rubric to test them at the end of the week. Also, I was thinking for the students who didn't pass, have a retest at the end of the unit to give them more time to work on their skills.

Week 2 go over various offensive and defensive stragegies then start a Sports Education Unit where they can get the feel of a team and experience tournament play. The rest of this week can be spent in practices and scrimmages. The nice thing about this method, is that it's all run by the students.

Week 3 begins tournament play...making a big deal of the championship game.

Thoughts?

I just wanted to thank everyone who has helped with this collaboration so far. You guys are great and every addition has been so good!!! I wish we were all in one room throwing out ideas and discussing.

Hi Angela
Feel free to move around the lessons I wrote to wherever you feel best fits your vision for this unit. I'm still learning about the SEM so I wouldn't be the best person to collaborate on that part. If you need activities for specific skills, let me know and I will try to fill in the gaps. Good job.

Hey ladies,

I see you have one more objective you need to fill, I was wondering if I could add a defensive part? or is it too late? I've read over everything else you've done and noticed the focus seems to be only one offense.

The other question I have is on objective #3. Is it really reasonable to assume that 4th graders will really be able to design their own offensive play?

I don't mean to sound like I'm questioning everything you've done. I think you guys have done a great job, but I was told I need to interact with the class more. Since I've been coaching HS basketball for a few years now, this would be a good place to start interacting.

Jeremy,
Thanks for your input! Please be critical of it and add whatever you can! Basketball is not one of my strong sports so your (and everyone else's) input is wonderful! Please add a defensive objective and lesson plan! Feel free to take ownership and change/move things around as you see fit! Thanks!
