Graduate School Preparation
Graduate degrees are offered in physical activity and health fields at the masters level (MS, MEd) and doctoral level (PhD, EdD, PED)
Application deadlines: Fall entrance deadlines are usually early in February or March. Some school offer “rolling admissions.” This allows flexibility to enter any given term, with each term having a different application deadline.
Criteria: Most schools examine grade point average, GRE scores (quantitative and verbal), work experience, and letters of recommendation.
Acceptance: Some schools are more competitive than others. There are a number of factors that go into the decision about acceptance to graduate school. The number of applicants and the number of students allowed are important factors related to competitiveness to get into a given school.
Assistantships: Most graduate schools have positions available to help with research or teaching. These positions usually include some level of tuition waiver and/or paid stipend. These are applied for as part of the graduate school application process.
Choose top 2-3 schools to apply. Realize that it costs about $50 per application but this is a good investment if the top choices do not accept you.
