Tennis Rules in Brief

Court: Baseline, service line, alley, backcourt, service court, center service line, doubles sideline, singles sideline.
Types of play: Singles and doubles.
Basics of game play
- Points are won when opponent hits into the net, outside the boundary lines, or does not hit the ball before it bounces twice.
- A ball that hits a line is in. The opponent is responsible to indicate if a ball lands out.
- A player serves an entire game alternating left and right sides.
- Server cannot step on or beyond baseline before striking the ball.
- A server gets 2 chances to serve the ball in.
- Let: Serve that hits the net and lands in. Is done over.
Scoring:
- Game: Scored love, 15, 30, 40, game. If players are tied at 3 or more points it is “deuce.” If the server goes ahead by 1 point it is “ad in” if the receiver goes ahead it is “ad out”. A player must win 2 consecutive points after deuce to win the game.
- Set: When one player has won at least 6 games and is ahead by at lest 2 games.
- Match: Best of 3 or 5 sets.
