Pass receiving (1 point each check)
- Places the stick out in front of the body to receive the puck.
- Gives with the puck as it touches the blade.
- Controls the puck for another pass.
- Is able to stop and control a bouncing puck with the hand or stick.
Goal Keeping (1 point each check)
- Stays low in the stance with stick flat on the ground in front of the body. Glove is beside body and open.
- Demonstrates a proper stick save sweeping the puck away from the goal.
- Shows the butterfly position (foot out, knee down, and blocker or glove up) during a kick save.
- Snatches the puck for a glove save by bringing the glove up quickly.
Wrist shot (Circle point value that best describes skill competency)
- Poor: Illegal with the stick above the waist.
- Needs Practice: Holds the stick with the hands correctly positioned at the top and 2/3 down the stick. Student sweeps the puck forward but is usually unable to get lift on the puck.
- Proficient: The wrist is supinated and then quickly pronated while sweeping the puck from the rear to forward foot. The shot elevates from the ground but is sometimes erratic.
- Superior: The player exhibits proper technique holding the stick and executes a shot as a proficient student demonstrates but the superior performance includes uncanny accuracy and quickness in the shot..
Slap shot (Circle point value that best describes skill competency)
- Poor: Illegal with the stick above the waist.
- Needs Practice: Holds the stick with the hands correctly positioned at the top and 2/3 down the stick. The student executes the shot but it is often erratic and contact is not always solid.
- Proficient: Forceful contact is made with the puck about midline of the body or slightly forward. The puck usually travels in the intended direction.
- Superior: The player exhibits proper technique holding the stick and executes a shot using the entire body, but in a controlled manner. The shot explodes off the stick and flies in the air into the goal.
