Harrison Basketball Ability Test

Test Objective: To measure basketball playing ability

Age level: Junior and senior high school boys.

Equipment: Four basketballs, four stop watches, five chairs or hurdles, marking tape.

Administration and directions: Includes four tests

  1. Field Goal Test: Subject assumes a position close to the basket while holding the basketball. On the start signal the subject makes as many baskets as possible in 30 seconds using any type of shot. Two trials.
  2. Speed Pass: On the start signal the subject passes the ball against the wall 30 times while standing behind an 8 foot restraining line. The ball must be passed and received from behind the restraining line. Two trials.
  3. Dribble test: For 30 seconds, subject weaves through series of chairs or hurdles while dribbling. Five hurdles are spaced in a straight line 10 feet apart. The test starts at one end. Two trials.
  4. Rebound test: The subject stands near the backboard while holding the basketball. On the start signal, the subject tosses the ball off the backboard and jumps to catch it in the air and return in it to the background. This is repeated for 30 seconds. The subject may catch the ball and return to the ground if needed.

Scoring: One point is scored for each time a basket is made, the ball hits the wall, the mid point of a chair is reached, and the ball hits the backboard, respectively for each test.
