Cut-off plays
Technique
- Cut-off person stands about 35 feet from intended target and in straight ling. Hands up and call for ball.
- Outfielder throws at cut-off person’s head.
- Person at base yells instructions to “cut” and whatever base to throw to (eg. “2" for second base).
- If throw is on target and runner is advancing the person should be silent and the cut-off person lets the ball go.
Responsibilities:
- First baseman: Throws to home from right side of outfield and in fast pitch from entire outfield.
- Second baseman: Cut-off throws from right side of outfield to second.
- Short stop: Cut-off throws from left side of outfield to 2b and right side of outfield to third base.
- Third baseman: Cut-off throws to home from left field in slow pitch.
