Soccer Skill Testing Rubrics

Pass Receiving (1 point each check)

  • Chooses appropriate area of the body to receive ball.
  • Moves toward the ball into the correct area to receive ball.
  • Deadens the ball with a soft target. Ball is under control.
  • Receives ball away from opponent.

Dribbling (1 point each check)

  • Good posture: back straight, low center of gravity.
  • Uses both inside and outside of foot to control ball.
  • Ball stays close to body.
  • Shield ball from defender

Tackling (1 point each check)

  • Stays low to ground and advances toward offensive player.
  • Concentrates on the ball.
  • Drives hard through the ball
  • Able to do legal poke tackle from behind defender.

Heading (1 point each check)

  • Ball contacts on forehead, just above eyebrows.
  • Arms are out for balance.
  • Rigid neck with chin to chest.
  • Drives trunk forward on contact.

Goal Keeping (Circle point value that best describes skill competency)

1 ==> Poor: Often missed or fumbles a ball that should be blocked.

2 ==> Needs Practice: Blocks ball consistently but does not use correct techniques.

3 ==> Proficient: Correct techniques are present but occasionally makes errors allowing the ball to go by. Chooses appropriate hand position (fingers up on high ball and down on low ball). Scoops up rolling ball with both feet together or drops down on one knee..

4 ==> Superior: Moves into appropriate position to block the best angles of the shooter. Uses proficient techniques identified in #3.

Throwins (Circle point value that best describes skill competency)

0 ==> Illegal throwin

2 ==> Legal throwin using both hands and delivering ball directly over head with both feet on ground during entire throwin.

4 ==> Legal throwin as described in #2 and arches back and rolls shoulders to increase speed and trajectory of throw. Able to lead a running teammate.
