Job summary: Purpose and objectives

The Head Coach is responsible for the performance and conduct of their assigned team. They must ensure that the team follows the direction and mission of the Athletic Department and the university.

Duties and Responsibilities (Percentage represents approximate time devoted to duty)

25% Practices

Plan and administer regular practices with team. Teach team members to demonstration proper technique, safety, and sportsmanship. Assure that all athletes attend practice regularly.

15% Game Coaching

Overall responsibility for substitutions, player conduct, motivation, and strategy implementation during athletic contests.

15% Supervision of contests

Accommodate opponents and referees needs at contests including arranging proper dressing rooms and fulfilling reasonable requests. Ensure games are played in a safe environment. Make sure crowd behavior for home games is suitable to mission of SWAU athletics. Responsible for travel supervision and safety.

15% Equipment and Finances

Care and keep track of equipment. Ensure equipment and facilities are in good repair. Arrange for cash advances and trip accommodations. Promptly turn in paperwork following trip for reimbursement. Request equipment orders of athletic director.

10% Rules and Policies

Formulate and enforce team rules. Administer discipline of athletes ordered by Athletic Director or the University.

10% Recruiting Athletes

Actively recruit athletes for sport. May including travel, phone conversations, or mailings to prospective student-athletes.

5% Personnel management

Hire, evaluate, and supervise team managers and assistant coaches.

5% Conference Paperwork

Timely and properly report accurate statistics and scores to Sports Information Director. Nominating athletes for Player of the Week, All-conference Team, and other NAIA recognition awards.
